Did you get to witness the nation’s jubilant Bicentennial celebrations – all the tall ships and parades and Revolutionary War reenactments?
Were you terrified by the release of the movie Jaws – and among the crowds who gathered on the Montauk docks to gawk at the massive creatures?
Were you a board-carrying member of the sun-bleached and salt-licked surfer society? Were you thrilled when the federal government set a 200-mile fishing limit for offshore foreign fishing vessels? Did you like to go disco dancing at Montauk clubs?
If so (even if not), you might be interested in the Montauk Library’s new digital exhibit, Community Spirit: Montauk in the 1970s. Those who were around at that time may recognize some of the images from our Archives; young whippersnappers, as well, might get a kick out of them.
