Welcome to the Montauk Library Children’s Room’s new blog! My name is Miss Jackie and I am the new children’s librarian here at the library! I just started here and am so excited to be a part of the library community. I hope this blog will inform parents and their children about the library, children’s programs, new books and much more!
First, I want to tell you about the exciting children’s programs happening this July at the library! We already had an author visit from Angelina Ballerina writer Katharine Holabird, and now we are preparing for the National Circus Project. They will be at the library on Friday, July 24th at 5:00 pm and will entertain and astonish their audience! This event is free and open to all children and parents.
Another fun, fantastic program is coming your way on July 30th at 2:00 pm when Steve Petra and PetraPuppets visit and put on their show Calling All Heroes! Grab your cape and fly to the library to see this show starring Ultra Duck, Eric the Super Sheep, the villainous Gorgonzilla and his sidekick the Almost Invisible Cow. Volunteers from the audience will help defeat the villains and learn the secret of the Hero Scope! This event is also free and open to all who wish to attend – especially superheros!
We also have our Summer Reading Program going on! Children ages birth to 12 years old and teens ages 13-18 can come in and sign up. Children will record all of the books they read and whether or not they liked what they read and then report to me. For every time they report, they get to pick a prize or a free book. At the end of the program they get a certificate of participation and will also have their name on the wall in the children’s room for the summer! Sign up is ongoing, so stop by today! Hope to see everyone soon!
