Let’s take a break from our winter-themed posts. We could all use a respite from the below-freezing temperatures, incessant winds, and piles of snow still lining the sidewalks, driveways, and playgrounds.

Fast forward to summer. Strap on your Mary Janes and get your favorite striped T-shirt out of storage. We’re going fishing with this young mariner and mother. Dressed to impress for a presumedly warm morning at sea, they’ve returned from their fishing trip with an Atlantic bluefin tuna, perfectly sized for the dinner table.

Dave Edwardes, a local photographer, captured this proud moment sometime in the 1950s or 1960s. A few hundred of his photographs have been digitized and are available on New York Heritage Digital Collections. Dave often wrote captions on the negative sleeves, but this photograph came unannotated.
